Stall Series (2021)
Fabrication/Sculpture, Stop Motion Animation, Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere Pro
Inspired by my experience as a first generation Asian American watching videos of a market in my family’s hometown in Vietnam. My grandfather, step-grandmother, aunt, and mom recall the memories of their time there. They pointed out people who they grew up with who are still working in the market. This series comes from an unfamiliar but nostalgic feeling I get when I hear their stories. In a land that is unknown to me where people speak a language I am familiar with, but do not fully know. I built a plaster food stall that would change in size as it rotated. The stop motion footage was then imported into After Effects for the final look. The language on the signs is completely made up and don’t mean anything.
